Effective Rehab that won’t flare their symptoms: PFP Podcast Part 3

I’ve really enjoyed sharing our podcast series on Patellofemoral Pain. Alice’s story seems to have caught many people’s imaginations. More and more of our patients are doing Hyrox so it’s been great to have a case study focussing on this.

In Episode 1 we discussed our ‘4 Pillars’ Framework for managing running injuries and how we can deliver effective load management to settle symptoms.

We answered a tricky question in Episode 2what to do when athletes won’t reduce their training. The podcast explored common reasons and effective solutions that you can apply with your patients.

Our case study, Alice, has played a big part so far in the series, showcasing how we can apply key treatment principles in the real world for an athlete with PFP.

Now we’re onto my favourite bit, progressive rehab!

The right exercises can be transformative for patients. Not only building strength but also reducing pain, increasing confidence and enhancing running performance.

Consistency is key. This was challenging with our case study as she had a full week with Hyrox, running and cross-training. Listen to part 3 to find out how we fit everything in (and still had time for recovery)!

Our new podcast episode takes a deep dive into exercise selection and progression for PFP, including:

  • Key strength deficits to address in runners with PFP
  • How to select exercises that improve strength while minimising patellofemoral joint stress
  • Simple ways to modify rehab to reduce pain
  • A phased approach to progress from low-irritability exercises to sport-specific training
  • How to integrate rehab into the patient’s training to improve consistency and enhance results (even in complex cases)

Our live webinar on July 14th will build on these key principles with a 3 stage rehab programme you can download and adapt for your athletes. We’ll also cover important new recommendations on resistance training and the latest best practice guidelines for PFP. Visit the webinar page to find out more.

Later this week I’ll have the final episode of our series on Patellofemoral Pain and one of the most important! How to successfully guide athletes back to running and progress towards their goals. We’re just putting the finishing touches to that, I’ll let you know as soon as it’s available!!
