Our articles are not designed to replace medical advice. If you have an injury we recommend seeing a qualified health professional. To book an appointment with Tom Goom (AKA ‘The Running Physio’) visit our clinic page. We offer both in-person assessments and online consultations.
We’ve had a great response to the first part of our free video series, ‘Tricky Tendons’. Don’t worry if you missed it, sign up HERE and we’ll send you the whole series, as soon as they’re released!
The reason why tendons can be ‘tricky’ is that they’re often quick to be aggravated and slow to settle. If we get the exercise selection wrong it can easily lead to a flare up. And yet if we don’t progress a runner enough it’s hard to achieve their running goals.
A one size fits all approach clearly doesn’t work! An individualised approach is needed.
In Part 2 of Tricky Tendons, we’ll help you develop your tailored treatment of tendinopathy, designed to assess and address individual need. There’s a lot you’ll be able to take away and apply in clinic from this free video:
- The 3 types of peroneal tendon pathology
- What positions aggravate tendon pain and why
- How to adapt rehab to reduce aggravation of symptoms
- Mechanism of injury and how it influences treatment
- Key deficits to address
- When surgery is indicated
- The role of orthoses and shoe selection
- What to focus on in gait analysis for peroneal pain
We’ve chosen to focus on peroneal tendinopathy as it’s rarely discussed in detail but the principles you’ll gain from the series are applicable to all lower limb tendinopathies.
