Our articles are not designed to replace medical advice. If you have an injury we recommend seeing a qualified health professional. To book an appointment with Tom Goom (AKA ‘The Running Physio’) visit our clinic page. We offer both in-person assessments and online consultations.
We’ve teamed up with @Physiosinsport and @BJSM_BMJ to bring you a comprehensive case study on managing Achilles tendinopathy in runners. It features a fictional runner called Al (AKA #AchillesAl) and will aim to cover all aspects of his care in a multi-part blog series. Part 1 on training error, was published a couple of weeks ago and has proven really popular. This week we’ve followed it up with Part 2 on modify training and we’ve plans for a further 4 – 6 blogs covering pyschosocial factors, exercise selection, gait re-training and more.
Where this series is a little different is that it’s interactive – we encourage readers to share their thoughts on Al’s care by tweeting @BJSM_BMJ and @physiosinsport with hashtag #AchillesAl. We’ve summarised the key tweets from Part 1 via storify (below) and will share your views on Part 2 in the next blog in the series.
Top Exercise Physiologist John Feeney from Pure Sports Performance has joined us to add his considerable wisdom on training structure and progression in part 1 and 2. We welcome views from others within the MDT, just tweet with #AchillesAl to get involved.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on #AchillesAl & how training error linked to his pain. See the best answers here https://t.co/iWkUEvZdoV
