You may have heard of the Acute Chronic Workload Ratio (ACWR) which became popular following interesting research from Tim Gabbett and colleagues. Their work suggested there was a ‘sweet spot’ for injury prevention with a ACWR of 0.8 to 1.3.
Up until now though there wasn’t much evidence specific to runners but a new study by Nakaoka et al. (2021) has some surprising findings!
