Can mindfulness help ‘Runner’s Knee’?

A lot of the focus around treating running injuries is on load and how well tissues can manage it. This is fine but we don’t treat tissues, we treat people.

I’m an advocate for the load-capacity model but we know now there’s much more to pain than this alone. So it’s encouraging when new research explores a treatment focussing more on psychosocial aspects of symptoms in runners, in this case, those with patellofemoral pain (PFP, AKA ‘Runner’s Knee’ – not the best term but I needed a short title!).

This new trial added a mindfulness intervention to standard management of runners with chronic PFP with encouraging results. You can find out all about it and how it may influence your treatment of this condition in our new video below.
